In the aftermath of the September 11, 2001, attacks, Americans witnessed a tragedy that shook the nation to its core. It was a day of great sorrow and loss, as countless lives were taken in an act of evil. Yet, amidst the darkness of that day, the character of a nation began to shine more clearly on the following day, September 12. People came together, not as divided individuals, but as one united people. This unity, this strength, this compassion—this was the defining spirit of September 12.
