A Historical look at Instrumental Music in Christian Worship
In tracing the historical advent of instrumental music in Christian worship, it is noted that a significant shift occurred around 670 AD. During this time, Pope Vitalian initiated the inclusion of organs in church services in selected regions of Southern Europe. Despite this, the most substantial evidence points to Greek emperor Constantine Copronymus gifting an organ to King Pepin of the Franks in 775 AD. The integration of instruments in worship has since been a point of extensive debate,
given its later introduction, which suggests a lack of endorsement from Christ.
