I challenge you to enhance your worship to God in 2025! It might sound strange to you if you have not focused carefully on God’s instructions and principles on worship. God’s people should seek to grow week by week, and year by year in our love for God, His Son, His word and His Church! We must guard ourselves from becoming complacent toward worship and it’s significance. Are there passages of Scripture that indicate that God’s people should grow in their love for worship and in their performance of it to God? Yes, there are, consider them with me.
Recognize God’s Identity Fully
“Oh come, let us worship and bow down; Let us kneel before the LORD our Maker. For He is our God, And we are the people of His pasture, And the sheep of His hand” (Ps. 95:6-7). The words of the psalms from the long ago underscore the abiding truth that appreciating God’s true identity and our dependence on Him will naturally grow in our love to worship God. The call to "come" implies a readiness to set aside distractions and focus solely on God. This preparation mirrors the need for us to continually grow in our understanding and execution of worship practices, striving for excellence and depth in how we honor God.
Grow In Attitude and Practice
“But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth” (Jn. 4:23-24). These words of Jesus to the woman at the well highlights the importance of engaging the heart ("spirit") and aligning with God’s revealed will ("truth") in worship. Such teaching encourages God’s people to grow in both attitude and practice. Since God is the object of our worship and praise, why would those who love Him not seek to grow in their love for worship to Him and in their performance of it to God? God is seeking i.e., pursuing those who align and will align will His will.
Worship Flows From Knowledge
“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.” The words of Paul to the church at Colosse emphasize worship that flows from a deep knowledge of God’s word, which encourages growth in understanding and consequently in participation.
Conclusion
These passages of Scripture make it apparent that the worship we offer God is refined and deepened as our relationship with God develops and grows. God deserves our very best! Why wouldn’t we seek to give Him our very best worship, praise and adoration?
