The Mighty Men Retreat
The Mighty Men Retreat (MMR) is a vision born in the mind of Tyler Jenkins. I was actively involved with MMR for several years until my move to Canada and have personally witnessed the profound transformations it has sparked in the lives of the men who have taken part in these retreats. If you are interested in having Tyler and the other dedicated individuals from MMR organize a retreat in your area, you can connect with them through this link: The Mighty Men Retreat on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/MightyMenRetreat.
Becoming a Mighty Man of God
Embodying Christian Virtues
In today's world, being a mighty man of God is a noble pursuit. It requires a commitment to living by the values and principles laid out in the Bible. As we explore the characteristics of such a man, we find that honesty, integrity, responsibility, discipline, strength, confidence, respect, growth, courage, gratitude, charity, mercy, and kindness are key virtues that can guide us on this journey. Let's delve into these qualities and see how they align with the Word of God.
Honesty: Proverbs 28:13 reminds us, "Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy." A mighty man of God lives his values by telling the truth, even when no one knows, and he delivers on commitments when it hurts. This honesty is the foundation of his character.
Integrity: In Proverbs 11:3, we read, "The integrity of the upright guides them, but the crookedness of the treacherous destroys them." Living a life of integrity means not compromising on your principles, even when everyone is is against you. A mighty man of God stays true to his convictions.
Responsibility: Colossians 3:23-24 reminds us, "Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men." Being responsible means carrying out your duties and responsibilities, even at the expense of fun. A mighty man of God understands that true responsibility goes beyond personal desires.
Discipline: 1 Corinthians 9:26-27 teaches us about discipline, saying, "So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air. But I discipline my body and keep it under control." A mighty man of God is measured in his actions, controls his emotions, and carries the burdens of those who are weak.
Strength: Galatians 6:2 encourages us to "Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ." A mighty man of God shoulders blame and questions his instincts when necessary. His strength lies in helping others carry their burdens.
Confidence: Proverbs 3:5-6 tells us, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding." Confidence for a mighty man of God comes from creating new paths and not being dissuaded by critics. He relies on God's guidance.
Growth: Proverbs 26:11 reminds us of the importance of growth: "Like a dog that returns to his vomit is a fool who repeats his folly." A mighty man of God continually seeks to know and grow himself, attending to weaknesses and learning from mistakes. He never runs back mistakes.
Courage: 2 Timothy 1:7 reassures us that "God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control." A mighty man of God faces anxiety purposefully, fearing only a future filled with regret. He draws his courage from God's strength.
Gratitude: James 1:17 reminds us, "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights." A mighty man of God counts his blessings and remains thankful in all circumstances.
Charity: 1 John 3:17 teaches us to "not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth." Living open-handedly, a mighty man of God does for one what he cannot do for all, embodying the spirit of charity.
Mercy: James 2:13 emphasizes the importance of mercy: "For judgment is without mercy to one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment." A mighty man of God looks through others' eyes before passing judgment, extending the same mercy he hopes to receive.
Kindness: Proverbs 16:24 reminds us, "Gracious words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the body." A mighty man of God passes the praise and seeks opportunities to share admiration for others, spreading kindness wherever he goes.
Becoming a mighty man of God is a lifelong journey that involves living by these virtuous principles. These characteristics align with the teachings of the Bible and provide a roadmap for men who aspire to be strong, honorable, and faithful followers of Christ. By embodying honesty, integrity, responsibility, discipline, strength, confidence, respect, growth, courage, gratitude, charity, mercy, and kindness, we can truly become mighty men of God and make a positive impact on the world around us.
