The Bible is a collection of divinely inspired writings, through which God reveals His character, plan, and purpose for humanity. One of the central events in the Bible is the life of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, and to ensure that the message of His life and work would reach all people, God commissioned four men—Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John—to write about it. These four Gospel writers each present a unique perspective, but all share the common goal of pointing to Jesus as the Savior of the world. Their accounts were inspired i.e., breathed out by the Holy Spirit and are thus the word of God and not merely the writings of men (2 Timothy 3:16-17 and 2 Peter 1:3-4).
