Public Service Announcement: God’s greatness doesn’t hinge on human recognition. He is great, period. If you feel the urge to "well actually" me, do it in the comments—but be sure to share this post on your social media or, at the very least, restack it on Substack.
Yes, God is Lord, but we still need to make Him Lord of our lives. The urgent message today is clear: our nation and society must turn back and make God great again in our individual lives and our respective nations.
Make God Great Again
The True Hope for All Nations
The success of a nation does not lie in the coronation of a king or the election of a president. It isn’t found in military strength or a thriving economy. True success is found when a nation bows before King Jesus in humble submission to His will. The Word of God is clear: a nation’s downfall comes when it rejects God and His Son, and history, both in scripture and beyond, consistently shows this truth. Today, we find ourselves in a time where many are calling for change, for power shifts, and for solutions to society’s problems. Yet the one thing that truly matters is being ignored. Our nation needs to resolve to make God great again, instead of turning away from Him.
Balancing Political Engagement with Trust in God
I’ve put out many articles talking about the Christian duty to participate in the political process. In one way or another, Christians should be involved, and the least involvement is simply voting. We must be responsible citizens and use our opportunities to influence the direction of our country. After all, we are accountable for the choices we make, including who we support and what policies we advocate for.
But as I’ve said before, the ultimate hope for all mankind and every nation is not found in politics. While voting and participating are important, they are not the solution to the deeper problems that plague our society. The ultimate hope is to turn to God and trust in Jesus as Savior. If we rely solely on political engagement without grounding our efforts in faith and submission to Christ, we will fail. True success for any nation comes when its people humble themselves before God.
The Futility of Human Power
In scripture, we see over and over again that no earthly power can guarantee the success of a people. Israel, once blessed by God, was led into exile because of its disobedience. As 2 Kings 17:13-18 recounts, they forsook God’s commandments and embraced idolatry, leading to their destruction. Nations may rise to power through human efforts, but they fall through the rejection of God.
Today’s world seems no different. Leaders, regardless of their title, promise solutions and hope, but they are simply mortal men and women. As Psalm 146:3-4 says, “Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help. His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish.” Governments come and go, but the kingdom of Jesus Christ stands forever. The only true hope for a nation lies in its submission to God.
Our Nation Needs Jesus
The ultimate hope for all mankind and every nation is found in Jesus Christ. Our leaders can’t save us. Our military can’t protect us from the spiritual battle we’re facing. Economic prosperity, though helpful for daily life, can’t fix the moral decay that grips our society. The only way forward is to turn to God and trust in His Son as our Savior. Jesus is the solution. He always has been, and He always will be.
As Christians, we are called to live in submission to Him and to lead others to do the same. Jesus said in Matthew 28:18, “All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.” We must remember that Jesus reigns, not just over individuals, but over nations. No leader or ruler has authority apart from Him. The leaders of nations must recognize that their success, too, is tied to their submission to Jesus. When they reject Him, they bring destruction upon their people, but when they honor Him, they lead their nations toward true prosperity.
The Duty of the Christian
While we must engage in the political process and make our voices heard, our hope cannot rest there. Christians should vote, yes. They should be informed and active. But we cannot forget that our political efforts are only part of the picture. The real solution lies in the power of the gospel, the Word of God, and the lordship of Jesus Christ. Nations need to hear the truth about sin, repentance, and the hope found only in Jesus.
As Proverbs 14:34 says, “Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.” The work of a Christian is to spread the gospel and to encourage others, including our leaders, to turn to God. This is where our ultimate focus must be, even as we participate in the day-to-day governance of our country.
The Path Forward
If our nation continues down its current path, rejecting the authority of God and embracing moral relativism, we will face the same fate as countless others before us. But there is hope. God’s mercy is still extended to those who seek Him. As James 4:10 tells us, “Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.” This message must be proclaimed to our leaders and our fellow citizens. The only path forward is through Jesus Christ.
We must resolve to make God great again, not with empty slogans or political promises, but through active engagement in both the spiritual and civic arenas. While we participate in the political process, our main focus must always be on sharing the gospel with our immediate community. The hope for any nation does not rest in policies or elections, but in individuals—one person at a time—placing their faith and hope in Jesus Christ. If we truly want to see change, it starts with us, right where we are, bringing others to Christ through the power of the gospel. That is the only lasting solution.
